The Catholic Review is Maryland's largest paid weekly newspaper, distributed by mail to nearly 60,000 households. It serves as the newspaper of record for the Archdiocese of Baltimore, covering most of the state. The Catholic Review is all about you, your faith and your church. For over 170 years, it has served as your primary source for Catholic news and information around the state, nation and globe, bringing you news you won't find anywhere else. It remains your direct communication link to events happening in your parish and faith-life.
As your hometown newspaper, The Catholic Review provides news about events and issues of interest to people who are involved in Catholic parishes, schools and organizations, whether their involvement is just sitting in a pew at Mass each Sunday or participating on the parish council, or anything in between.
National and international stories are also featured in The Catholic Review, providing you with a Catholic perspective to news happening around the world or in the next state. Every effort is made to offer you the most complete and comprehensive Catholic news coverage every week.
A lively opinion and commentary section keeps The Catholic Review's pulse on Catholic life. Columnists like Father Joe Breighner provide practical wisdom for everyday situations and problems. Letters to the Editor allow our readers to voice their feelings on issues of the day.
Archbishop Edwin F. O´Brien is the publisher of The Catholic Review.
Mission Statement for The Catholic Review
1. To be a weekly Catholic newspaper that provides a Catholic perspective and insight into issues and events occurring at the local, national and international level which have an impact on life in the Catholic community;
2. To be an official means of communication for the Archbishop by serving as a vehicle for the Archbishop of Baltimore and those he designates to speak for him, to share Church teachings;
3. To achieve the widest possible distribution in the Catholic community and beyond by working with parish leaders to encourage the most readership, and by developing strategies to reach new readers; and
4. To generate revenue to meet expenses by promoting a plan for parish subscriptions, soliciting individual subscriptions and seeking advertising from those whose services and/or attitudes and practices are not at variance with Catholic teaching.
