Jesuit Alumni and Friends Sunday at St. Ignatius Catholic Community
Oct 23 2016 10:30 AM
St. Ignatius Catholic Community
740 N. Calvert Street
Baltimore, MD 21202

The Jesuits’ Maryland and North East provinces will host the second Jesuit Alumni Sunday gathering at 13 parishes across the East Coast on Saturday, October 22 and Sunday, October 23. St. Ignatius Church will host this occurrence at the 10:30 Mass on Sunday, October 23. Alumni Sunday is an excellent opportunity for folks connected to the Jesuit world to celebrate liturgy together and connect with others who share the values of Jesuit formation and education, the service of faith, and the promotion of justice. For this Mass, the homily will be given by Fr. John Savard, rector of Loyola University. Fr. James Casciotti will preside. There will be a special music presentation by harpist and St. Ignatius parishioner, Julie Frazier. A reception will follow the Mass, and Justin White from Cristo Rey Baltimore, and Madeline Lacovara from Jesuit Relief Services will be in attendance and able to discuss their organizations and their work. This is an opportunity for people to learn about other Jesuit organizations, and have people from the parishes that coordinate faith-justice and spirituality offerings talk with different people from other networks. Interacting with "The Other": An Interfaith Presentation
Oct 29 2016 09:00 AM
St. Ignatius Catholic Community
740 N. Calvert Street
Baltimore, MD 21202

Interacting with ""The Other"" – an interfaith presentation on race, religion, respecting, and receiving will be held at St. Ignatius Catholic Community On Saturday, October 29 from 9 AM until Noon. There are four ways to approach the other. 1. We can build bunkers of isolation, and try to hide ourselves away. 2. We can build barriers of division, and speak only of the areas of disagreement and difference. 3. We can wield bludgeons of destruction, and seek to dominate through violence. 4. Or we can build bridges of cooperation, leading with love and seeking connection. The interesting thing about all these structures is that they can all be built by the same materials – stones… “We need more people looking for stones fit to make bridges and developing the skills to form those stones into structures that bring people together. Because this we know for sure – bridges don’t fall from the sky or rise from the ground. People build them.” – Eboo Patel. Featuring KEYNOTE: Islam and The Other – Imam Yahya Hendi, Director of Muslim Life at Georgetown University Panel Discussion: ""A Christian Justice Perspective"" – Dr. Rosann Catalano of the Institute for Islamic-Christian-Jewish Studies ""Welcoming the Stranger"" – Selina Keino, Immigration Outreach Service Center ""Our Divided Baltimore"" – Ray Kelly, No Boundaries Coalition OPEN FORUM: speakers and attendees Registration: To register visit: Early bird tickets can be purchased by Saturday, October 22, 2016 for $10, $15 afterwards at the door.
